CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Bailey Martin was 2-for-3 but no Sycamore outside of the top three in the lineup recorded a hit as Indiana State dropped a 3-0 decision in the rubber game of a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series at Northern Iowa on Sunday.
Â
Leslie Sims, Martin and
Shaye Barton accounted for all four Sycamore hits Sunday while
Mallory Marsicek, batting seventh in the order, was hit by a pitch marking the only four players for Indiana State (22-22, 9-10) to reach base.
Â
The Sycamores were continually stymied by the complete game performance of Brooke Craig (12-9), who did not issue a walk and struck out one for Northern Iowa (23-21, 8-10).
Â
Twice the Trees threatened to score as Sims (1
st inning) and Martin (3
rd inning) stood only 60 feet away from home with one out but both times the host Panthers recorded back-to-back outs, preventing any Sycamore runs.
Â
Kylie Stober (6-7) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings pitched.
Abbey Kruzel held Northern Iowa scoreless and only allowed three hits in the final 3 1/3 innings.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Bailey Martin gets the nod as the only Sycamore to record multiple hits and only player to get on base twice. She finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate.
Â
STAT OF THE GAME
The Sycamore pitching staff did not issue a walk in a game for the first time since March 10 (vs. Mississippi Valley State).
