Rally Falls Short in 8-6 Loss at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Leslie Sims was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and Indiana State scored three runs in the top of the seventh but the Sycamore rally would fall just short in an 8-6 loss in the first game of a doubleheader at Purdue Wednesday.

The Sycamores (17-18) trailed 3-0 early before Bailey Martin hit an RBI triple and Amanda Guercio followed with a two-run home run to tie the game. Purdue (11-28) responded with five runs over the next two innings before Indiana State threatened in the top of the seventh.

The Trees led off the seventh with a single and three straight walks to cut the deficit to 8-4. Brooke Mann then hit a sacrifice fly to deep center and Rebecca Gibbs hit an RBI groundout to second as two more runs crossed the plate, making it an 8-6 game. But Kylie Stober would be thrwarted at the plate and struck out swinging to end the game.

Sims moved into a tie for eighth in career stolen bases at Indiana State as the sophomore's two swipes gave her 34 in her career.
