CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Indiana State erupted for 12 runs on nine hits in the fifth inning to push the Sycamores to a 14-1 (5 inn.) win over Tennessee State in the final game of the Chattanooga Challenge.
Â
The offensive onslaught pushed the Sycamores (5-1) to its first five-game winning streak since the 2015 season.
Â
In the fateful fifth frame, Tennessee State did not commit an error but the Trees bats proved too much to handle. Eight of the nine Sycamores in the lineup scored a run in the inning and seven of the nine recorded a base hit. Indiana State had four different players score multiple runs in the inning.
Â
The Sycamores had taken an early 2-0 lead when
Bella Peterson drove in a pair of runs with a double to right center in the top of the first. Tennessee State (0-8) responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers registered two of their four hits in the game in that first frame.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
While there are several to choose from in this offensive onslaught, today's honor goes to
Brooke Mann for her 3-for-4 performance. The Sycamore junior drove in four runs and scored two more herself.
Â
STAT OF THE GAME
Despite plenty of fireworks by the Sycamores, Indiana State only registered three extra-base hits in the game – a pair of doubles by
Bella Peterson and a home run by
Rebecca Gibbs.
