BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bailey Martin went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run home run as Indiana State won its seventh straight game with a 7-2 decision over Toledo at the Hilltopper Classic.
The Sycamores (7-1) would never trail as a
Rebecca Gibbs RBI single the first inning followed by a three-run home run by
Bailey Martin in the second frame gave Indiana State an early 4-0 lead. Toledo (3-3) would tack on a pair of runs in the third, but that would be the extent of their scoring in the game.
ISU added a run with a
Mallory Marsicek RBI double in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-2 game. In the bottom of the sixth, Martin drove in
Becky Malchow with an RBI double to left center and then herself scored on a sacrifice fly to center by
Brittany Whiteside.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Bailey Martin gets the honor thanks to her big bat. The junior's three-run home run in the second inning pushed the Indiana State lead beyond Toledo's grasp and she finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 4 RBIs.
STAT OF THE GAME
After committing five errors in the first two games this season, the Sycamores have only committed two errors in the last five games and have had a clean sheet in the field over the last two games.
