ST. LOUIS -- Indiana State's
Jerry Nunez has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Sunday. It marks the third weekly honor for Nunez this season.
Battling freezing rain and snow throughout Saturday, Nunez, a Naples, Florida native, connected on three field goals in a 15-13 win over Western Illinois, including the game-winning 27-yard field goal as time expired to help the Sycamores to their fifth-consecutive victory. Nunez also nailed a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter and an 18-yard field goal in the third.
The junior finishes the season 15-of-19 on field goal attempts and 40-of-41 on PAT's. In three seasons, Nunez has recorded 39-of-52 field goals for a 76.5 field goal percent and has totaled 201 points for the Sycamores.
