QUICK HITS
• It's Homecoming on the Indiana State campus this week as the Sycamores host Missouri State on Saturday to cap off a week full of festivities. The contest between Missouri State and Indiana State is the 90th Homecoming football game to be played at ISU. All-time, the Sycamores are 48-39-2 in Homecoming games, including a mark of 2-2 versus the Bears. The last time Missouri State was the Sycamores' Homecoming opponent was in 2016, when the ISU fell to the Bears, 45-24.Â
Â
• Missouri State leads the all-time series between the two programs, 19-13 and have won the last two meetings. No team has won or lost more than three games in-a-row during the entire series that dates back to 1986. The Sycamores hold a 9-7 record against the Bears at Memorial Stadium and have won three of the last four meetings with MSU in Terre Haute.Â
Â
• Indiana State amassed 569 yards of total offense against South Dakota State last weekend. It was the highest output by the Sycamores since putting up 671 yards against Quincy in 2013. ISU outgained the Jacks 276 to 229 in the air with rushing yards dead even at 293 yards. Redshirt senior
Ja'Quan Keys rushed for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns and
Ryan Boyle threw for 276 yard and ran for 60 yards while scoring a pair of touchdowns through the air while running in two scores as well en route to MVFC Newcomer of the Week honors.
Rontrez Morgan caught both touchdowns -- the first his career -- for the Sycamores while going for 155 yard on nine catches.Â
Â
• One of the keys this season for the Sycamores has been their success when entering the red zone. ISU ranks seventh nationally and has scored in the red zone 20-of-21 times for a 95.2 percentage. Last season, ISU entered the red zone just 19 times over 11 games with only nine touchdowns. This season, the Sycamores have 15 touchdowns and five made field goals in just five games.Â
Â
• The rushing attack -- it has been one of the best parts of ISU's game this season. Indiana State has run the ball for 1,292 yards on the ground in four games, averaging 258.4 yards per contest.
Ja'Quan Keys holds nearly half the total rushing yards for the Sycamores with 662 while
Christian Covington and
Titus McCoy each have tallied more than 150 yards on the ground each. On the flip side, the ISU defense has held opponents to 176.8 yards per game on the ground.Â
Â
• Keys entered 2018 with 519 yards' career rushing yards in two seasons, and with 662 yards after six weeks, the Hammond, Louisiana native has surpassed the 1,000-career rushing mark. Keys has averaged 130.2 yards per game this season with his biggest output of the year coming at Eastern Illinois when he rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns.Â
Â
• Keys busted open two touchdown runs at SDSU -- the first a career long 62-yard run in the third quarter, before going for a 57 yard run with 2:08 remaining to play. In total, the Sycamores rushed for 293 yards led by Keys who finished with 159 yards.
Â
• Quarterback
Ryan Boyle was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week after his performance at No. 3 South Dakota State during week six. He accounted for four total touchdowns against the Jackrabbits. Boyle connected on a pair of touchdowns through the air to sophomore
Rontrez Morgan; the first passing touchdowns of the season for the Sycamores while running in a pair of touchdowns.Â
Â
• Most impressive was Boyle's poise down the stretch against the Jacks. The Urbandale, Iowa native led the Sycamores from their own goal line with just two minutes remaining to play in regulation, trailing SDSU 48-45. Boyle extended several plays, connecting first on a 30-yard pass to
Dante Jones II and then a 47-yard pass to Morgan to put the Sycamores well into Jackrabbit territory to setup the game-tying field goal from
Jerry Nunez. Boyle finished the game with 276 yards through the air on 19-of-29 passing while totaling 60 yards on the ground. Â
Â
•
Wyatt Wozniak was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive of the Week after a superb game at SDSU. Wozniak, a Cypress, Texas product, led the charge from his center position, as the Sycamores racked up 569 total yards of offense Saturday at No. 3 South Dakota State -- the most yards since the Sycamores put up 671 yards against Quincy in 2013.Â
Â
•LB
Jonas Griffith led Indiana State with 18 tackles (11 solo) at SDSU. He ranks 8th in the nation with 10.8 tackles per game.Â
Â
• LB

Â
