IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Indiana State volleyball team started the day on a high note before slowing down in a pair of non-conference losses Saturday at the Hawkeye Classic, falling to Omaha (24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 15-9) and host Iowa (16-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-13) inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Sarah Peterson earned Hawkeye Classic All-Tournament Team honors for her performance this weekend. The outside hitter had 39 kills on a .197 attacking percentage in four matches.
The Sycamores got out to a great start against the Omaha utilizing a balanced attack to win two of the first three sets before the Mavericks overcame a 2-1 deficit with wins in the fourth and fifth sets to take the match, 3-2. ISU hit .289 in set one, but dropped to .187 for the match as UNO picked up its defense.
Facing a crowd of 1,124 in the nightcap against host Iowa, the Sycamores could not have asked for a better start as they dominated Iowa in the opening set en route to a 25-16 but that would be the highlight of the night as the Hawkeyes would reel off three straight set wins to take the match, 3-1.
Inside the Box Score vs. Omaha
- Laura Gross led ISU with her fourth double-double of the season on 15 kills and 14 digs while Rachel Griffin had another with 41 assists and 14 digs.
- Libero Stephanie Bindernagel was all over the court defensively turning in a match-best 21 digs to go along with three service aces.
- The Mavericks controlled the net battle totaling 12 blocks compared to only five by the Indiana State.
- Omaha dominated the offensive side of the ball, tallying 73 kills and a .358 attacking percentage compared to ISU's 56 kills and .187 hitting percentage.
- The five-setter marked the first of the season for the Sycamores.
Inside the Box Score vs. Iowa
- Peterson led the charge on the offense with 10 kills on 27 swings.
- Griffin finished with 39 assists and eight digs while Bindernagel had 17 digs. Sophomore Damadj Johnson led the team with three blocks while Peterson and Griffin had two each.
- ISU was held to .165 hitting while the Hawkeyes finished with a .314 attacking percentage.
- Iowa finished with 59 kills on 137 attacks.
The Sycamores will wrap up their 10-match road schedule to start the season next weekend at the Chippewa Invitational hosted by Central Michigan. ISU will take on the CMU and IUPUI Friday before closing the Invite out with Cleveland State on Saturday.
