TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Athletics has announced several changes to the football radio broadcasts for the upcoming season, including the addition of current Digital Media Coordinator
Luke Martin as the play-by-play voice of the Sycamores and the move to WIBQ FM 97.9 (and AM 1230/1440).
Martin joined Indiana State in January in his current position overseeing all video content for GoSycamores.com and across various social platforms. Martin will remain as the women's basketball play-by-play voice for the second straight season, and will also see an increased role with baseball broadcasts in 2018.
A 2014 graduate of Ball State University, Martin came to Indiana State following a stint as sports director at ESPN 1130 The Fan (FM 99.5) with Emmis Communications in Terre Haute. There, he began and hosted the daily program "In The Haute," and also served as the play-by-play voice for several local high schools. Prior, Martin gained experience as a broadcaster at UNC-Greensboro in 2015-16, serving as the main voice of the Spartan Baseball team and as a fill-in for UNCG men's basketball. Martin also received valuable work as an undergraduate at Ball State, working as sideline reporter for Ball State Football and as main play-by-play for baseball.
Brian Fritz, longtime play-by-play voice of Sycamore Football, Men's Basketball and Baseball, will move to a color analyst position on football broadcasts while remaining the main play-by-play voice for Sycamore Basketball. Fritz will also split duties with Martin on Sycamore Baseball broadcasts in the spring. Fritz replaces
Tom James as Sycamore Football color analyst, who received more gameday duties as the newly-appointed
Sycamore Football alumni liaison.
"With Tom helping us in reaching out to our alumni, it was a no-brainer to get
Luke Martin in on our broadcasts with
Brian Fritz," said ISU head coach
Curt Mallory. "He brings an unparalleled enthusiasm for Sycamore Football and Sycamore Athletics in general, and pairing him with an experienced veteran like Brian will make our radio shows a fun experience for our fans."
Fritz, a 1996 graduate of Indiana University, begins his 18th season at Indiana State after coming to Terre Haute as radio play-by-play in 1999. Fritz has called some of the most memorable moments in Sycamore Basketball history – most notably ISU's last-second upset over Indiana in the Hulman Center in 2000 on the hands of Michael Menser.
As mentioned, Sycamore Football games will be broadcast on WIBQ FM 97.9 (AM 1230/1440), but will also be live streamed for free on GoSycamores.com. Included in football broadcasts this season will be a live one-hour pregame show, as well as an extensive postgame show featuring interviews with Coach Mallory and others.
