CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Sycamores suffered from a cold shooting performance for most of its road game at Loyola as the Ramblers took a 64-46 decision inside Gentile Arena.
Indiana State saw its two-game winning streak end as they fell to 10-17, 4-11 MVC while Loyola ended a four-game skid and improved to 17-11, 7-8 MVC. The Ramblers have now won three in a row against Indiana State.
Laquarious Paige and
TJ Bell each reached double figures scoring as they tallied 10 points each. It was the second consecutive game in which Paige has reached double figures scoring.Â
Emondre Rickman added seven rebounds and five blocked shots while
Everett Clemons added six assists. Indiana State was limited to just 17-of-49 shooting in the game (34.7 percent).Â
Emondre Rickman got the Sycamores on the board on the team's second possession to even the score and after a long rebound,
Laquarious Paige converted a fast break lay-up and conventional 3-point play as Indiana State surged ahead 5-2 early.
Matt Van Scyoc connected on the first 3-pointer of the game with 14:45 left in the first half which staked Indiana State to a 12-6 advantage.
TJ Bell's jumper gave Indiana State a 14-9 lead, but a 7-0 Rambler run put them ahead by two points before
Emondre Rickman scored inside with just over 10 minutes to go to level the score at 16.
Indiana State went scoreless over the next 3:25, but only allowed Loyola to score two field goals until Van Scyoc scored inside at the 6:43 mark to get ISU within 20-18. The Sycamores then went on another lengthy dry spell as they missed six shots in a row and didn't score again until
Niels Bunschoten drove the lane and dunked with two minutes left in the opening stanza to get Indiana State within 24-20. Indiana State's defense held the Ramblers without a point for the final 2:36 as Loyola took a 24-20 lead into the half. Paige paced the Sycamores with seven points through the first 20 minutes of action.
Milton Doyle battled foul trouble most of the first half but opened the second half with a 3-pointer to extend the Loyola lead to seven points before Clemons countered with a jumper to get within 27-22. Rickman then grabbed a defensive rebound after a blocked shot to make it five points in a row and the Rambler advantage shrunk to 29-27. Loyola took advantage of a couple empty possessions as the stretched their lead out to seven points before Van Scyoc drained a corner three with just under 14 minutes to go which trimmed the Rambler lead down to 34-30.
Loyola put together an 8-0 run as the Ramblers took a 46-34 lead on a Clayton Custer 3-pointer with 9:55 remaining and forced Indiana State to burn a timeout.
TJ Bell then went to work inside and used four charity tosses in a row over a pair of possessions to trim the Loyola lead down to 46-38. The momentum was ended with five in a row from the Ramblers as they reestablished a 51-38 advantage as the clock ticked down towards the eight minute mark. Barnes hit a jumper with just over seven minutes to go which moved the Sycamores within 11 points.Â
Brandon Murphy scored twice in the waning moments of the game with a pair of dunks.
Aundre Jackson led the way for Loyola with 18 points.
Indiana State returns home for its next two games beginning with a matchup on Sunday, February 19 against Southern Illinois. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. (ET) as the team will be working with P.I.N.K. Terre Haute to help raise money locally for those fighting cancer.
