SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Indiana State football could not spoil Homecoming for Missouri State Saturday at Plaster Stadium as the Bears rolled to their first Missouri Valley Football Conference win, 59-20. The Bears improve to 2-6, 1-4 MVFC while the Sycamores fell to 0-8, 0-5 MVFC.
Missouri State's offense was clicking all day as they finished with 624 yards and 28 first downs on the afternoon. The Bear offense jumped out to a 17-0 lead before Indiana State was able to find the end zone on a passing touchdown from
Isaac Harker to
Michael Thomas in the second quarter.
The Bears would add a pair of touchdowns before half to go into the locker room on top 38-6.
Indiana State's offense came out clicking in the second half as
LeMonte Booker found the end zone on the opening drive after a couple big catches from
Jacquet McClendon and
Curtis Lee as well as a 20-yard burst from Booker on the drive.
ISU and Missouri State would trade touchdowns on the next two drives. McClendon caught a 31-yard pass from
Cade Sparks to make it a 45-20 contest, but the rest was academic.
The Sycamores were led by
Jacquet McClendon with 64 yards receiving on six catches, including a touchdown.
Curtis Lee added 54 yards on five catches.
LeMonte Booker became the seventh player in school history to rack up 3,000 career all-purpose yards after running for 61 yards on 12 carries. Freshman
Titus McCoy added 32 yards rushing while Jaquan Keyes went for 28.
Isaac Harker and
Cade Sparks each saw action at the quarterback position. Harker finished with 111 yards passing and a touchdown on 10-of-18 passing while Sparks went 11-of-22 for 86 yards and a score.
Missouri State quarterback Peyton Huslig led all rushers with 174 yards on just seven carries for a pair of touchdowns. As a team, the Bears rushed for 339 yards. Huslig added two more touchdowns through the air on 12-of-14 passing and 211 yards.
MSU running back Jason Randall caught three passes -- all of which were touchdowns -- for a trio of scores.
Indiana State will return to Terre Haute next weekend as Youngstown State comes to town. Kickoff with the Penguins is set for 1 p.m. ET from Memorial Stadium.
