Barnes and Clemons Tally 14 Points Each Against Illinois State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State's Everett Clemons and Jordan Barnes scored 14 points each to lead the Sycamores, who rallied back to within 10 points after halftime, but eventually fell 77-58 to visiting Illinois State inside Hulman Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Sycamores fell to 6-10, 0-4 MVC while the Redbirds improved to 12-4, 4-0 MVC. The win by Illinois State was their first in Terre Haute since 2007. Indiana State is off to its first 0-4 start to MVC play since the 2004-05 season.

Clemons tallied 14 points as he hit 5-of-8 shots from the field to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Barnes came off the bench and provided a spark as she posted 14 points, hit a career-best four 3-pointers and added three rebounds, one assist and two steals. Brenton Scott made it 16 games in a row this season reaching double figures scoring as he tallied 12 points and had six rebounds with three assists. Brandon Murphy posted eight points and paced the Sycamores with seven rebounds.

The Sycamores hit 10-of-30 shots from the field in the first half (33.3 percent) but came back with a 12-of-25 mark (48 percent) in the second half. Indiana State finished with a 22-of-55 mark from the field (40 percent) while though Illinois State was limited to jst 9-of-25 shooting in the second half (36 percent), they finished the game with a 43.3 shooting percentage.

Illinois State scored the game's first 13 points before the Sycamores got a 3-pointer from Niels Bunschoten with 14:43 left in the first half to trim the deficit to 10 points at 13-3. Back-to-back jumpers from Scott and Murphy around the six minute mark got the Sycamores within 32-17. An Everett Clemons lay-up followed a Laquarious Paige steal at the 3:01 mark to trim the Redbird lead down to 40-26. Illinois State scored the final seven points of the half, including a 3-pointer from Paris Lee at the halftime buzzer as the Redbirds took a 47-24 lead at the break. Barnes led the Sycamores with eight points at the half.

Barnes earned the second half start and hit an open 3-pointer off the feed by Scott at the 18:57 mark to trim the Redbird lead down to 47-27. After Lee hit a trifecta to stake the Redbirds to a 53-35 lead, Scott connected on a 3-pointer with 14:26 remaining to start and 8-0 run which continued with another Scott 3-pointer and then a jumper in the paint from Clemons to give Illinois State a 53-43 advantage with 12:59 remaining. A 3-pointer from Bunschoten with 10:25 on the clock once again got ISU within 10 points before a 12-1 run was capped by MiKyle McIntosh with a 3-pointer at the 6:17 mark and the Redbirds led 70-49.

The Sycamores got their fourth 3-pointer of the game from Barnes with 1:02 to go as Illinois State walked out of Hulman Center with the 77-58 victory.

MiKyle McIntosh led the way for Illinois State with 31 points.

Indiana State takes to the Valley road for the third time when they travel to Drake on Wednesday, January 11 at 8:00 p.m. (ET). The game will be aired live on The Valley On ESPN3.
