EUGENE, Ore. – All-American Sycamores David Timlin and Adarius Washington are ready to represent Indiana State at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this week (June 8-11), hosted yet again by the University of Oregon at historic Hayward Field.

The finest athletes in Division I will descend upon Eugene this week for the four-day meet, which is split into men's competition (June 8 & 10) and women's competition (June 9 & 11). To get to this point, student-athletes needed to qualify for their respective NCAA Regional Preliminary Round Championship (East or West), and then needed to finish within the top-12 of their events at the regional meet in order to punch their ticket to Eugene. Athletes competing in either the decathlon or heptathlon needed only to finish within the top-12 nationally by the end of the regular season.

Those 24 total athletes will not only be competing for team or individual national championships, but also to grasp one of the coveted top-eight scoring spots for First-Team All-American status. Places nine through 16 receive Second Team All-American honors, and the remaining eight competitors receive Honorable Mention All-American distinction. Prior to the 2011 season, both the top-eight finishers and top-eight American-born athletes in each event received All-American honors until the Second-Team and Honorable Mention honors were instituted for the 2011 season.

This year, Indiana State will be represented by two of its best athletes on the men's side: junior distance runner David Timlin in the 1500-meter run and senior All-American hurdler Adarius Washington in the 110-meter hurdles. There won't be any first-time jitters for the duo, though, as this is the second trip to Eugene for the national meet for both Timlin and Washington.

Timlin qualified for the national meet just last year in the 1500-meter run, where he finished 14th overall at a new school-record time of 3:42.22 – still his overall best. Washington, meanwhile, qualified outdoors two seasons ago, where he finished 18th. He also earned First-Team All-American honors during the 2015 indoor season, where he finished fifth in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles.

All four days of the NCAA Championships will be broadcast live on the ESPN family of networks. Fans can catch all of the action from Wednesday live on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app starting at 3:30 p.m. ET, while ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU will carry live television coverage for the night session (depending on the outcome of the NCAA Softball Championships). If both Sycamores advance to the finals on Friday, ESPN3 will again carry coverage all day while the flagship ESPN will carry the track finals beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.

On making it back to the national meet:

“It's a relief. I expected to be back here, but you never know until it happens. Regionals are difficult for everyone, nothing is guaranteed. It's nice to be back and have that sorted out.”

On taking the final qualifying spot at the regional meet:

“The relief was getting the regional mark. Once I got that far, I'm a championship-style racer. I can kick, I can figure it out. Not getting a PR during the regular season wasn't fun, but that didn't bother me once I got here.”

On the quality of the field:

“It's a really good field. It's pretty dirty; I'm excited to be a part of it. There's not a huge gap between anyone. It's one of those things where a little mistake goes a long way. Also means there's an opportunity to beat you. I don't over-analyze races and I'm going to try to not do that here, but I really am thinking strategy on what is my best shot to get through.”

On the quality of the field and being a national title contender:

“We don't get to see them usually during the season, so it feels good to come out here and have a great competition and all come out here and have fun and compete at the highest level we can.”

On adding his name to the list of great Indiana State hurdlers:

“We're known for hurdles at Indiana State, so it would be nice. It's nice just to be here, but it would be nice if I can actually pull it off.”
