BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sycamore Baseball (8-5, 0-0 MVC) picked up an 8-2 win over the Rhode Island Rams (2-8, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in the first game of the Campbell Invitational and Spring Break road swing.
Indiana State struck first in the first inning after Junior Hunter Owen singled with two outs, then senior Kaden Moore hit a RBI double to plate Owen.
The Sycamores were quiet for the next three innings, but finally put up four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up 5-0. Redshirt freshman Dane Tofteland started things off with a walk, and then redshirt junior Jeff Zahn singled. Following suit, junior Kyle Moore sacrificed and the Rams would throw it away at first, allowing Tofteland and Zahn to score, landing Kyle Moore on third.
To keep things alive, senior Andy DeJesus singled to score Kyle Moore. To finish off the inning, Kaden Moore singled, scoring DeJesus.
The Sycamores would pick up another run in the top of the sixth as sophomore Tyler Friis singled to lead things off, then scored on a Zahn double.
Indiana State would not be satisfied with a 6-2 lead, as Owen struck again with a double to centerfield to score both Kyle Moore and DeJesus. The Sycamores would go on to get the 8-2 win over the Rams.
Tyler Ward (2-1) pick up his second win on the mound while Zahn finished 2-for-3 at the plate. DeJesus, Owen, and Kaden Moore finished with two hits each, as Moore and Owen both tallied two RBIs each.
The Sycamores return to Jim Perry Stadium tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET as they take on the Davidson Wildcats in game three of the Campbell Invitational.
