Scott scored first for the Sycamores as he hit a driving lay-up on the first possession and a jumper from
Laquarious Paige staked ISU to a 4-3 lead. A jumper from
TJ Bell with 18:24 left in the first half tied the game at 6. Western Kentucky used a 12-2 run to take an 18-8 lead before Murphy converted a pair of free throws to trim the lead down to 18-10. A jumper from Anton Waters gave Western Kentucky a 25-13 advantage, but Scott answered with a field goal of his own to start a 6-0 run which got the Sycamores within 25-19 with 8:06 left before the break. But the Hilltoppers stretched their lead out to 35-24 and ISU used a lay-up from Murphy, a 3-pointer by Bunschoten and then a lay-up from Bunschoten with 16 seconds left to trim their edge down to 35-31 at the half. Scott led the way at halftime with 10 points.
Scott would score first in the second half to make it nine consecutive points by the Sycamores and the Hilltopper lead was whittled all the way down to 35-33. Western Kentucky scored six in a row for an eight point lead before seven in a row from the Sycamores, capped by a Bell lay-up after an offensive rebound got the Sycamores within 41-40 with 15:23 remaining. A 3-pointer from
Donovan Franklin with 12:03 on the clock made it 48-46 in favor of WKU and then a pair of Bunschoten charity tosses with 9:21 remaining got the Sycamores within 52-50. A lay-up from Scott made it just a 54-52 deficit with 8:06 remaining, but 13 in a row for the Hilltoppers proved to be too much as they walked out of Hulman Center with a 77-59 victory.
