Women’s Hoops Returns to the Hulman Center to Host IUPUI Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State women's basketball returns to the Hulman Center for the first time since November 11 as they play host to in-state opponent IUPUI Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. ET. The game can be seen live on The Valley On ESPN3. Luke Martin will also have the call on WIBQ 1230 AM in the Wabash Valley. 

LAST TIME OUT
It was all Indiana State from start to finish Monday night in Charleston as the Sycamores ran past Eastern Illinois, 88-61, at Lantz Arena.

Three players for Indiana State finished with 16 points or more in the contest. Junior Ashley Taia led the way for the Sycamores (3-3), finishing with a game-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds, a pair of assists and a block and steal.

Rhagen Smith scored a season-best 16 points while grabbing six rebound. Wendi Bibbins was one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season with 16 points and nine rebounds. Tierra Webb set a new career high with six assists while adding eight points.

Indiana State jumped out to a 29-19 lead following the first quarter thanks in part to a steady flow 3-pointers falling. Coming into the game, ISU's game high for three's in a game was eight. The Sycamores hit six in the first quarter alone.

With a 19-10 lead at the first media timeout of the game, it marked the first time this season that ISU had led at the mark in five games.

SERIES HISTORY
Indiana State leads the all-time series 11-3, with the Jags. In a series that began in back in 1973, the Sycamores reeled off 10-straight wins until IUPUI broke into the win column during the 2012 season. Since 2012, the Jags have a 3-1 record against the Sycamores. ISU fell last season on the road, 68-43. 

BLOCK PARTY
Indiana State is getting it done in the paint on the defensive end, averaging 4.2 blocks per contest. McKenzy Telfair has blocks four shots this season while five other Sycamores have recorded three blocks.

STRONG START
The Sycamores jumped out to s strong start Monday at Eastern Illinois, leading 29-19 after the first quarter. ISU used a flurry of 3-pointers on their way to draining a season-best 11 on the night. As a team, the Sycamores shot 60.3 percent (35-of-58) from the field in route to an 88-61 victory over the Panthers. 

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Six games into the 2016-17 season, junior Wendi Bibbins is putting up the most consistent numbers on the team, averaging nearly a double-double with 9.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Against EIU, Bibbins fell just one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season after recording 16 points and nine rebounds. 

BENCH WORK
The Indiana State bench came to play over the last week, especially Monday night when they put up 26 points against the Panthers. Junior Freja Christensen led the way with a career-high nine points off of a trio of 3-pointers. Brooklyn Artis added eight while Regan Wentland added five. 

BACK AT HOME
For the first time since November 11th, Indiana State will play a game inside the Hulman Center when they welcome IUPUI Wednesday. The Sycamores were on the road for five-straight games, including contests at Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Mizzou, Omaha and EIU.
