Lovelace Nets ISU's First-Ever Hat Trick in Victory Over Chicago State

Box Score

CHICAGO -- Sydney Lovelace scored Indiana State Soccer's first-ever hat trick in a 6-0 victory over Chicago State at Kroc Stadium in Chicago, Ill. on Friday afternoon.  After assisting another goal, Lovelace broke the school record for offensive points in a contest with seven. ISU improves to 4-5 on the season, while the Chicago State Cougars fall to 0-8.

Sydney Lovelace scored twice in the first 11 minutes of the match.  Her first goal came in the 9th minute after dispossessing a Cougar defender and taking a shot from 20 yards out.  Her next goal came two minutes later when Lauren Weigel played the ball forward to Lovelace who buried it from ten yards out to give the Sycamores an early 2-0 lead.

The Sycamores added the third goal in the 15th minute.  Lovelace took a corner kick and played it in front of the net where Maddie Orf was able to head it past the keeper to give ISU the lead.

Lovelace made school history in the 30th minute.  After being fouled in the box, Lovelace took a penalty kick and shot to the right upper 90 to give her the hat trick and put the Sycamores up 4-0 at halftime.

ISU added a fifth goal in the 59th minute of action.  Orf played a ball to Kate Johnson who played it back to Orf.  Orf hit a ball over the back line where Weigel was able to outrun the Cougar back line and flick the ball past the keeper to put ISU up 5-0.

Lovelace scored her fourth goal of the contest in the 60th minute.  Sydney Loesing dribbled up the left side where she played a cross in to Lovelace.  The cross was deflected by a Chicago State defender for an own goal to give the Sycamores a 6-0 lead.

ISU tallied 27 shots in the contest, with 23 being on frame.  Lovelace and Loesing led the team with four shots each.  Orf, Weigel, Sydney Hamker and Ashley Gibbons each added three shots while Johnson, Kist and Whittington added two shots.  Katie Wells finished with one shot.

In goal, Brittany San Roman earned her second shutout of the season, playing 60 minutes in net.  Andrea Brown played for 30 minutes and earned two saves in the contest.

ISU returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 20th as they take on Valparaiso at Brown Field in Valparaiso at 2:00 p.m.
