ST. LOUIS – On Tuesday morning, the Missouri Valley Conference released its all-Conference baseball selections. Indiana State placed one member on the All-MVC second team, and another player on the honorable mention squad. Missouri State and Dallas Baptist took five spots each on the first team, while Illinois State placed three, Wichita State and Evansville added one.
Jeff Degano earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference second team, after going 7-3 in the regular season while earning a 2.57 earned run average and striking out 117 hitters, tying him for fifth most in the NCAA. During the conference season, Degano went 3-2 in seven games, earning a 2.27 ERA while striking out 63 hitters. In his 47.2 innings in conference play, Degano surrendered 15 runs (12 earned), and walked 14 while holding opponents without a home run.
Andy Young earned a spot on the MVC honorable mention squad. In conference games, the third baseman hit .313 (23-for-73), with seven doubles, a triple and four home runs with a slugging percentage of .575. Young started in all 21 Missouri Valley conference games, scoring seven runs and knocking in nine.
The MVC's Joe Carter Player of the Year award went to Kevin Kaczmarksi of Evansville. Pitcher of the Year went to Jon Harris of Missouri State. MSU's Jake Burger also took Freshman of the Year, along with Joey Hawkins winning the Defensive Player of the Year, while Keith Guttin won the Dan Callahan Coach of the Year. Illinois State's Jacob Hendren took home Newcomer of the Year honors.
