LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior All-American and Terre Haute native John Mascari will represent Indiana State for an unprecedented fourth time at the NCAA Cross Country National Championship this Saturday at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
This is the second time Mascari will run at a national meet hosted by Louisville, the first since his freshman season in 2012, where he finished 60th overall. Since, Mascari has earned two All-American honors at the national meet his sophomore (32nd) and junior seasons (8th), which were both hosted in Terre Haute.
Mascari is currently in the midst of a historic senior campaign for ISU, which has included him becoming the first-ever four-time Indiana Intercollegiate victor, the first-ever four-time Missouri Valley Conference individual champion and the first Sycamore in history to qualify for the national cross country meet four seasons in a row.
All of this is even more impressive considering Mascari is coming off a significant back injury from the outdoor track season that cost him a shot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, despite shattering the all-time MVC 10K record during the year.
His road to the national meet this year wasn't easy, however. After winning the meet his sophomore and junior seasons, Mascari finished sixth overall at the very tough Great Lakes Regional, which initially put him on the outside looking in for a fourth-straight qualifying berth. However, Mascari was lucky enough to snare one of the final two individual at-large bids for a chance to earn his third-consecutive All-American honor.
The men's 10K race will begin at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
