TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State University Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced today (July 12) that head baseball coach Rick Heller has resigned his position in order to accept the same position at the University of Iowa. Heller's resignation is effective immediately and a national search for his replacement is currently underway.

Heller steps down after four seasons in charge of the Sycamores, posting four consecutive winning seasons and a 131-91 record since 2010. Indiana State returned to the postseason in Heller's third season in charge in 2012, totaling a 41-19 record, the program's first outright Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship and a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.

Under Heller's direction, Indiana State has made three appearances in the MVC Tournament semifinals, standing as one of the last four teams remaining in the tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2013.

A native of Eldon, Iowa, Heller was hired at Indiana State on August 14, 2009, following the resignation of Lindsay Meggs. Heller takes a 692-563-4 career record over 26 years of head coaching experience to Iowa City, his tenure split over 12 years at Upper Iowa (1988-1999), 10 years at Northern Iowa (2000-09) and four years at Indiana State (2010-13). Heller's 600th career victory came on March 5, 2011, when Jason Van Skike threw a no-hitter at Central Arkansas.

The 2012 Dan Callahan / MVC Coach of the Year, Heller has sent 12 Sycamores onto professional baseball since 2010, with six of those selections coming in the top 16 rounds.
