TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State baseball team completed the weekend sweep of Alcorn State on Sunday, scoring nine runs over their final three innings at the plate to cruise to a 10-1 victory on Mother's Day from Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium.

The win improves Indiana State to 21-22 on the season and 14-6 on their home field while Alcorn State drops to 15-39 overall.

Indiana State scored first for the fifth consecutive game, as junior Mike Fitzgerald drove a two-out single to center that scored senior Robby Ort from third base. Alcorn State came back to tie the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single by Angel Polo before the ISU offense took over the rest of the way.

Fitzgerald (single) and redshirt sophomore Connor McClain (sacrifice fly) both drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as ISU regained the lead at 3-1. The Sycamores took advantage of three walks, a passed ball, one hit batter and an error by Alcorn State in the seventh inning to score two more runs.

Indiana State put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring five runs in the frame for a 10-1 lead. Senior Taylor Shaw highlighted the inning with a bases loaded two-run single to left-center, the first two RBIs of the season for the transfer from Southern Utah University.

Redshirt sophomore Greg Kuhlman (3-1) turned in a strong performance on the mound, striking out a career-high nine batters over six innings while allowing just two hits and one run on 76 pitches. Redshirt senior Tyler Fehringer and junior Josh Negele combined for the final three innings and did not allow a batter to reach base.

Ort (2-for-4, three runs, three stolen bases) and Fitzgerald (2-for-3, two walks, two RBIs) each posted multi-hit games while redshirt sophomore Derek Hannahs extended his hitting streak to 14 games on an infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Indiana State closes out the regular season next week, hosting four games at Bob Warn Field. The Sycamores welcome Ball State on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. before facing Bradley on Thursday through Saturday. All four games next week can be heard live on the Nelligan Sports Marketing Radio Network with a live video stream on GoSycamores.com through SycamoreVision.
