Sycamores Cruise Past Prairie Stars, 21-1

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State baseball team took care of business on Tuesday, scoring 13 runs in the second inning en route to a 21-1 victory over the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars on Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium in front of 494 fans.

Indiana State's 21 runs for the game are their most since scoring 23 against Butler in a 23-3 win in Terre Haute on March 18, 2009. ISU's 13 runs in the second inning are their most since plating 12 in the second inning at Southern Illinois in a 14-4 victory on April 23, 2010.


The Sycamores (20-5) scored four runs in the first inning, using a three-run home run by junior Jeremy Lucas to score in the first inning for the 14
th time this season. The home run was the sixth of the season for Lucas.

ISU plated 13 runs in the second inning to put the game away, brining 16 batters to the plate and tallying 11 hits in the inning. Junior Casey McCurdy hit a three-run home run in the inning, while senior Jeff Miera tallied three RBIs on a pair of doubles and senior Lucas Hileman scored two runs after hitting both a triple and a double in the inning.


Indiana State also scored four runs in the fourth inning, with Miera and freshman Landon Curry both being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before McCurdy knocked in two with a single through the middle of the infield.


Junior Devin Moore (2-2) earned the victory, starting the game and pitching three innings while striking out two batters. Redshirt freshman Tyler Pazik, junior Tyler Fehringer and sophomore Josh Negele all saw time on the mound in relief.


Indiana State travels to in-state rival Ball State on Wednesday, facing the Cardinals at 3:00 p.m. from Muncie, Ind.
