Sycamores Defense Key To Road Win Over Missouri State
Indiana State's defense limited Missouri State to just 20-of-64 shooting from the field (31.3 percent), which is the best field goal percentage defense mark for the Sycamores this season. ISU allowed only 46 points to the Bears, marking their lowest offensive output in the four-year history of the JQH Arena and the 13 point margin of victory (59-46) tied for the largest win by an opponent in the building. Prior to the win over Missouri State, the Sycamores' best defensive performance came on February 1 when they limited Drake on to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field (18-of-54). The effort at MSU also topped the 36 percent output the Sycamores put forth against Northern Iowa on January 25 to start a three-game winning streak. For the season, ISU is 10-2 when holding teams under a 42.1 field goal percentage and are 4-0 when the opposition connects on 18 field goals or less.

Carl Richard One Of Six Sycamores All-Time To Record At Least 1,000 Points and 700 Rebounds
Senior Carl Richard pulled down nine rebounds against Creighton on February 25 to give him 709 for his career and is in seventh place all-time in the history of the Sycamore basketball program. Richard needs 23 more to catch George Pillow (1968-71) for sixth place. Additionally, Carl Richard scored nine points versus Illinois State on February 14 and has 1,029 career points which makes him the 34th member of ISU's 1,000-point club. Odum's 34 points are the fourth-highest single-game total in the Missouri Valley Conference this year and marks the first 30 point scoring performance by a Sycamore since Marico Stinson posted 37 against Drake in 2006. Adding in his seven rebounds and seven assists, Odum is the only player in the NCAA to go 34-7-7 in a game this year. He finished the game with an 8-of-12 mark from the field and was 17-of-21 from the free throw line. He is the first player to record at least 17 free throws and seven assists in the same game since North Dakota State's Ben Woodside did it in 2008 against Stephen F. Austin. His 17 free throws made are a season-best in the MVC and represent seventh-most ever made in a MVC contest. The 17 free throws made are the most since Northern Iowa's Adam Koch converted 18 against Missouri State in January of 2009. Odum's 21 attempts from the charity stripe is sixth-best in the MVC record book for a conference game and are the most since Drake's Lonnie Randolph attempted 24 (making 22) in 2005 against Northern Iowa.

Indiana State sophomore Jake Odum is averaging 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game this season. He is one of just three players nationally to average that many points, rebounds and assists during the 2011-12 campaign. Jesse Sanders of Liberty is averaging 13.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 7.9 apg while Kaylon Williams of Milwaukee is averaging 10.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg and 6.1 apg so far this year to join Odum with that same lofty national statistical status. The best previous NCAA Division I perfect game from 3-point range belonged to Minnesota who was 9-of-9 in 2009. Additionally, the Sycamores 12-of-12 mark from behind the arch is the best percentage for a team with at least 10 attempts, besting Ohio State's 14-of-15 mark on March 6, 2011 and the 12 made 3-pointers in a row is the most consecutive 3-pointers made in a single-game by one team since 1987. ISU's 64.1 percent shooting mark (25-of-39) is its best overall shooting percentage in a game since 1992.

Under second-year head coach Greg Lansing, the Sycamores are 25-1 when allowing less than 63 points to the opposition (including a 11-0 mark when holding teams to 53 or less). The Sycamores are allowing 65.0 points per game this year, which ranks fifth best in the MVC.

Indiana State's win over No. 25 Vanderbilt was its first over a nationally-ranked opponent since a 72-64 home court victory over No. 14 Butler on December 9, 2006. The win over Vanderbilt was the first for the Sycamores over a nationally-ranked road opponent since a 63-60 win over No. 15 Indiana in Assembly Hall on December 12, 1999.
