The Indiana State women's basketball team saw their six-game winning streak
come to an end on Saturday evening in Indianapolis, as the Butler Bulldogs came
away with a 56-45 victory inside Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Sycamores finish their nonconference season with an 8-3 record, the best
mark among teams from the Missouri Valley Conference.
Indiana State took a 26-23 lead into the halftime locker room, closing the
opening 20 minutes on an 11-2 run. Senior Taylor Whitley capped the first-half
run, sinking a jumper as the buzzer sounded.
Sophomore Racheal Mahan led Indiana State in the first half, totaling nine points
and three rebounds.
Butler's Daress McClung gave the Bulldogs at 32-31 lead on a pair of free
throws with 12:51 remaining in the contest, a lead that the home side would not
surrender the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs (7-5) sealed the victory at the charity stripe, knocking down 14
of their 18 shots in the second half. For the game, Butler went 20-for-28 at
the free-throw line to Indiana State's 8-for-15 effort.
Mahan led Indiana State with 16 points, while Whitley also went into double
figures with 10. Junior Anna Munn was held to six points (3-for-14 shooting),
her first effort under 10 points this season. Taylor Schippers led the Bulldogs,
totaling 16 points.
Indiana Sate has a 13-day break over the holiday season, returning to the court
on Friday, Jan. 4, with their conference opener against the Bradley Braves.
