SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Senior Deja Mattox posted a career-high 31 points on Friday night inside the JQH Arena, but it was not enough to lead the Sycamores to a road victory as Missouri State came away with an 84-70 Missouri Valley Conference victory on their home floor.

The loss drops the Sycamores to an even 10-10 on the season and 4-4 within the MVC. The Bears improve to 12-6 overall, 5-3 in league play.

Missouri State never trailed on Friday, opening the game on an 8-0 run. Mattox shot the Sycamores back into the game, scoring 17 of ISU's first 20 points as Indiana State fought back to trail by three, at 23-20, with 10:58 left in the first half.

ISU's first six field goals all came from beyond the arc, with Mattox hitting her first five treys and senior Brittany Schoen adding another over the first 10 minutes of action. Mattox started the game a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point range, hitting her sixth to tie the score at 25-25 with 9:28 until the break.

The Bears led 45-41 at the half, on the strength of nine offensive rebounds that the home side turned into a 13-2 advantage in second-chance points. Mattox went for 20 points in the first half, while Schoen added eight.

Indiana State got within three points in the opening minutes of the second half, when a three-pointer by sophomore Anna Munn made the score 47-44 in favor of Missouri State with 17:57 to play. After Munn's trey, MSU responded with 9-2 run over two minutes to push their lead to 56-46 with 15:44 remaining.

The Sycamores continued to fight, getting back within three points again with 6:58 remaining. ISU capped a 7-0 run on a triple by Mattox to make the score 63-60 MSU. The Bears answered in kind, however, regaining a double-digit lead with a 7-0 run of their own.

ISU came as close as six points on a pair of free-throws by Mattox with 3:53 remaining, but MSU hit their shots at the line to put the game out of reach.

Mattox finished her career night with 31 points, going 10-for-14 from the field, 7-for-10 from three-point range and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe, also tying the school record for three-pointers in a single game. Schoen was the last Sycamore to hit as many treys, knocking down seven last season at Drake on Feb. 19. Senior Shannon Thomas scored nine second-half points to join her fellow senior in double figures with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Schoen added nine points for the game, now sitting just seven away from joining the 1,000 Point Club at Indiana State. Schoen's defense was key in keeping the Sycamores close all night, as the senior held MSU senior Casey Garrison to just nine shots and 12 points, six points under her season average.

The Sycamores return to the court on Sunday, Jan. 29, when they travel to Wichita, Kan., to face the Wichita State Shockers at 3:05 p.m. (ET). The Shockers fell for the first time in the conference season on Friday night, dropping to 7-1 in the league with a 68-59 loss at home to Illinois State.
