Sycamores Shutout By Creighton In Double Header Saturday

Despite a season high 10 strikeouts from junior pitcher Lindsey Beisser, the Sycamores (14-30, 3-18 MVC) fell in both games of a double header to the Bluejays of Creighton University (23-24, 11-9 MVC) 9-0 and 3-0 Saturday at Price Field.

Game One

The Sycamores fell behind early in game one of the double header and could never recover as they fell in game one to the Bluejays by a final score of 9-0.

In the bottom of the first inning the Sycamores loaded the bases with only one out but were unable to get any runs accross as two consecutive strikeouts ended the inning.

The Bluejays then took over in the top of the second inning as they had 11 batters come to the plate in the inning, scoring six runs off five hits to take a 6-0 lead over the Sycamores.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Sycamores once again threatened as junior first baseman Bailey Wittenauer stood on third and junior catcher Olivia Andres was on second with just one out but once again the Sycamores were held scoreless.

The score remained 6-0 until the top of the seventh when the Bluejays added three more runs to extend their lead to 9-0. The Sycamore offense could not respond giving Creighton the 9-0 win in game one.

Game Two

In game two of the double header the game turned into a pitchers duel as Beisser threw three scoreless innings giving up just two hits over the first three innings of play.

In the top of the third inning the Bluejays broke open a scoreless game with three singles to score a run and take a 1-0 lead over the Sycamores. In the bottom of the fourth inning sophomore right fielder Kim Pierce and freshman short stop Shelby Wilson advanced to second and third, respectively, off a sacrafice bunt by freshman Alex Baumgart with one out. However, just as in game one the Sycamores could not bat them in.

The Bluejays added two more runs to the lead in the top of the seventh inning off a leadoff home run and two singles en route to a 3-0 win to sweep the double header against the Sycamores.

Wilson finished the game 2-3 for the Sycamores at the plate.

Despite getting the loss, Beisser threw a complete game  giving up just three runs while striking out 10 and walking just two Bluejay batters.

The Sycamores will return to action tomorrow when they wrap up the three-game series with Creighton at 12 p.m. at Price Field. It will also be senior day when the Sycamores will honor their lone senior, Stephanie Jonson.
