Sycamore Track & Field Teams Move Up In National, Regional Rankings

NEW ORLEANS ? The Indiana State men's track & field team moved up seven spots with the women's team moving up two as the second week of the 2011 Outdoor rankings were released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

 

The Sycamore women's team moved up to 92nd in the second regular season national ranking (up from 94th) while the men are now 96th nationally (up from 103rd).

 

Florida remained on top of the men's rankings with the Gators followed in the top 10 by Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Florida State, Louisiana State, Mississippi State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas, and Nebraska.

 

Illinois State is the top ranked Missouri Valley Conference team at 79th followed by Southern Illinois 82nd, Indiana State 96th, Northern Iowa 98th, Wichita State 136th, and Drake 155th.

 

In the Hoosier state, Indiana is the top ranked team at 56th followed by Purdue in 93rd, Notre Dame 94th, and Indiana State 96th.

 

Texas A&M held on to the top spot of the women's rankings with the Aggies followed in the top 10 by Louisiana State, Oregon, Southern California, Clemson, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Arizona, and Florida State.

 

Southern Illinois is the top ranked Missouri Valley Conference team at 22nd followed by Wichita State in 47th, Indiana State 92nd, Northern Iowa 109th, Illinois State 114th, and Drake 119th.

 

In the Hoosier state, Indiana is the top ranked team at 28th followed by Purdue 90th, Indiana State 92nd, Notre Dame 109th, and Ball State 144th.

 

SYCAMORE ATHLETES IN THE RANKINGS

 

Several Sycamores posted performances that rank among the top 100 in the nation after the second week of the outdoor season.

 

Men's Team ?

 

Junior Major Clay ranks 11th nationally (seventh East/second Great Lakes Region/first MVC) in the high jump after clearing 7'-1” (2.16 meters) to win his second straight title at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).

 

Sophomore Robert Webb ranks 68th nationally (26th East/12th Great Lakes Region/sixth MVC) in the Decathlon after scoring 6,145 points at the EIU Big Blue Classic (March 31-April1).

 

Junior Ernest Rollins ranks 89th nationally (44th East/fifth Great Lakes Region/fourth MVC) in the triple jump with a leap of 48'-3.25” (14.71 meters) at the EIU Big Blue Classic (Apr. 2).

 

Senior Michael Roberts ranks 72nd nationally (34th East/ninth Great Lakes Region/third MVC) in the 110 meter hurdles after racing to a 14.35 finish at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).

 

Freshman Maurice Lyke is ranked 79th nationally (39th East/11th Great Lakes Region/fourth MVC) in the triple jump with a time of 14.40 at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).

 

Senior Michael Disher ranks 86th nationally (49th East/14th Great Lakes Region/second MVC) in the3,000 meter steeplechase with a winning time of 9:15.06 at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr.8).

 

Sophomore Dustin Betz ranks 93rd nationally (52nd East/15th Great Lakes Region/third MVC) in the3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:17.00 at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr.8).

 

Freshman Max Tuttle ranks 88th nationally (37th East/fifth Great Lakes Region/second MVC) in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.97 at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).

 

Women's Team ?

 

Sophomore Felisha Johnson ranks 13th nationally (fifth East/first Great Lakes Region/third in the MVC) in the hammer throw with a distance of 200'-7” (61.14 meters) at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9). She also ranks 55th nationally (29th East/ninth Great Lakes Region/fourth MVC) in the shot put with a distance of 49'-6.5” (15.10 meters) at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).

 

Senior Kelsey Hanley ranks 20th nationally (ninth East/third Great Lakes Region/second MVC) in the discus throw with a distance of 172'-8” (52.63 meters) at the EIU Big Blue Classic (Apr. 2). She also ranks 24th nationally (10th East/fourth Great Lakes Region/sixth MVC) in the hammer throw with a distance of 193'-1” (58.66 meters) at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).

 

Junior Nicole Hope ranks 55th nationally (20th East/eighth Great Lakes Region/second MVC) in the pole vault after clearing 12'-9.5” (3.90 meters) at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 8).

 

Sophomore Richelle Kimble ranks 66th nationally (24th East/10th Great Lakes Region/third MVC) in the pole vault after clearing 12'-8” (3.86 meters) at the Ice Dual (Mar. 26).

 

Freshman Kelly Steffen ranks 79th nationally (34th East/10th Great Lakes Region/fourth MVC) in the Heptathlon after scoring 4,302 points at the EIU Big Blue Classic (Mar. 31-Apr. 1).

 

Sophomore Stacia Weatherford ranks 99th nationally (57th East/ninth Great Lakes Region/third MVC) in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 14.07 at the Tom Botts Invitational (Apr. 9).
