TERRE HAUTE, IND—After being delayed due to weather for the second straight day the Indiana State softball team (9-14, 0-5 MVC) dropped its second straight game to the Bears of Missouri State (13-11, 4-1 MVC) by a final score of 6-1.

The Bears once again got off to a quick start as they got three runs across the plate in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Sycamores.

The Sycamores could not respond in the bottom half of the inning but in the top of the second inning the Bears struck again. Missouri State led off the inning with four straight singles as they added two more runs to their lead to make it 5-0 Missouri State after an inning and a half of play.

The offense of both teams then began to cool off. However, the Bears were not done scoring yet as in the top of the fifth inning as Missouri State's Caitlin Chapin hit a solo home run to extend the Missouri State lead over the Sycamores to 6-0.

The Sycamores responded in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman center fielder Alex Baumgart led off the inning with a walk before junior second baseman Stephanie Robinson advanced Baumgart to second on a sacrifice. Baumgart then stole third base before junior Alyssa Marcum singled to center field to score Baumgart and give the Sycamores their first run of the day.

The Sycamores could not get cut the lead any more, however, as they fell by a final score of 6-1 to the Bears of Missouri State for the second straight day.

Marcum finished the game 1-3 with an RBI for the Sycamores.

The loss drops the Sycamores to 9-14 on the season and 0-5 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

The Sycamores will return to action Wednesday when they travel to face in-state rival Indiana University at 3 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind.
