TERRE HAUTE, IND.—It was a cold day in Terre Haute, which delayed the start of the Sycamores first home Missouri Valley Conference game of the 2011 season three hours and cancelled the second game of the double header after the Indiana State softball team (9-13, 0-4 MVC) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Bears of Missouri State (12-11, 3-1 MVC).

The Sycamores got behind early as Missouri State recorded two runs off of two hits in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Sycamores after a half inning of play.

After holding the Sycamores scoreless in the bottom half of the first inning, the Bears added to their lead as they scored two more runs off three hits to make it a 4-0 Missouri State advantage.

Once again the Sycamores were held scoreless but in the top of the fourth inning the Bears struck again with back to back triples to add one more run and make it a 5-0 lead over the Sycamores.

This time in the bottom half of the fourth inning, the Sycamores offense showed its first signs of life as junior left fielder Stephanie Robinson reached on an error by the Bears short stop to lead off the inning. Two batters later junior Bailey Wittenauer hit an RBI double to left field to score Robinson and cut the Bears lead to 5-1.

The Bears responded though in the top of the fifth inning as they added one final run to make it a 6-1 Bears lead over the Sycamores.

The Sycamores could not get any more runs across and fell to the Bears by a final score of 6-1.

Weather permitting, the Sycamores will finish the series tomorrow at noon at Price Field.
