TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? The Indiana State track & field team will be battling on two fronts this weekend as one group travels to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Meyo Invitational on Friday and Saturday with another group heading to Greencastle, Ind., to compete in the Tiger Invitational on Saturday. Both of these meets are unscored competitions with the focus on improving performance.
“This is the part of the season where we have finished up our early scored meets and now focus on competing well, getting seeds for the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, and narrowing down the conference travel squad,” Angie Martin, Indiana State women's track & field coach, said.
The Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, is one of the top events of the Indoor season and attracts a large number of athletes from throughout the country. However, this week's winter storm may reduce the number of individuals and teams able to make the trip. Competition begins at 5 p.m. (ET) on Friday and 10:00 a.m. (ET) on Saturday.
“We didn't have a very good meet at Wisconsin due to illness and injuries,” John McNichols, Indiana State men's track & field coach, said. “For the next two weeks we are in competitions where our individual goals turn solely to performance. Everyone on the team is still competing for a spot on the roster for the conference championships but it is important for them to take care of themselves, stay healthy, and train hard.”
Eight individuals will be competing at the Meyo Invitational for the ISU women, all in the track events. A larger team will compete for the men at the Meyo Invitational with 20 individuals scheduled to compete.
The biggest portion of the Sycamore track & field teams will compete at the Tiger Invitational Saturday on the campus of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Action will begin at 11 a.m. (ET) on Saturday with the field events with the track events starting at 11:15 a.m. (ET). The Tiger Invitational has been the launching pad of success for a number of Sycamore athletes and the youthful Indiana State team will gain valuable experience as they prepare for the MVC Indoor Championships later this month.
