The Indiana State softball team (1-3) finished their first tournament of the season Sunday as they fell to Eastern Illinois and the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Game One

The Sycamores began the day with a tough loss to the Panthers of Eastern Illinois University where they fell 2-0.

Freshman left fielder Alex Baumgart got things started for the Sycamores in the top of the first inning with a single to left field and advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior Stephanie Robinson then grounded out to advance Baumgart to third. However, the inning came to an abrupt end when freshman right fielder Shelby Wilson hit into a double play from shortstop to first base to the catcher to keep the Sycamores from scoring.

The Sycamores could only get two more hits the rest of the game, however, they held the Panthers scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Panthers racked up two runs.

The Sycamores couldn't respond and eventually fell by the final score of 2-0.

Sophomore pitcher Kristen Felker was on the mound for the Sycamores and threw for four and a third innings giving up just two runs off four hits with only one earned run with five strikeouts.

Game Two

In game two the Sycamore offense threatened but couldn't get a runner across the plate as they fell to host UL-Monroe 9-0.

Once again the Sycamores lead off runner advanced to third in the top of the first inning. However, the Sycamores couldn't bring in a run and ended the inning inning with two hits.

The Warhawks got their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a Sycamore throwing error.

Neither team's offense could get anything going again until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Sycamores gave up four runs with only one of them being earned.

The Warkhawks then tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Sycamores eventually falling by a final score of 9-0.

Baumgart finished the game going 1-3 with two stolen bases. Junior pitcher Lindsey Beisser threw four and two thirds innings giving up five runs but only one earned run.
