ALLENDALE, MICH. ? Sycamore sophomore Dexter Childress finished fourth and freshman Robert Webb fifth as the two Indiana State athletes competed in the final three events of the Heptathlon today to round out ISU's participation in the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
Childress began the day in eighth but parlayed a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (8.56) with a second place finish in the pole vault (15'-5”/4.70 meters) and a second in the 1,000 meters (2:47.21) to climb into fourth overall. The sophomore scored a personal best 4,915 points which is the third best total in Indiana State history.
Webb started the day in second but couldn't keep the momentum going. The freshman finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.70), 10th in the pole vault (12'-5.5”/3.80 meters), and ninth in the 1,000 meters (2:54.81) to finish in fifth overall. This was Webb's first career Heptathlon with the freshman scoring 4,875 points which is the fourth best in ISU history.
Indiana State will participate in the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill. This is the final meet before the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships which will be held Feb. 26-27 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
