LOUIS - After averaging 18.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.5
assists per game in Indiana State's victories over UT Martin and Illinois
Chicago last week, senior Shannon Thomas has been named this week's Prairie
Farm / Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week as announced by
the league office.
In ISU's home win over UT Martin, Thomas posted season-highs for points and
rebounds, going for 22 points and 17 boards as she recorded her 21st
career double-double. She fell one rebound short of another double-double
against UIC, going for 14 points and nine rebounds, including 10 points in the
second half, as the Sycamores secured their first road victory of the season.
Thomas is the second Sycamore to pick up the Prairie Farms / MVC Scholar-Athlete
of the Week award this season, joining senior goalkeeper Emily Lahay (Sept. 7)
from the women's soccer team.
In the classroom, the senior from Springboro, Ohio, carries a 3.38 grade-point
average while majoring in Marketing.
To qualify for Prairie Farms / MVC Scholar-Athlete
of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point
average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution
and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and
first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the
academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic
performance for a one-week period.
