NASHVILLE, Tenn.—The Indiana State women's basketball team (2-3) turned the ball over 19 times and gave up 21 points off turnovers as they fell 69-59 to the Bruins of Belmont (1-5) Sunday in Nashville, Tenn.
The Sycamores jumped out to an early lead as senior center Shannon Thomas and sophmore forward Andrea Rademacher each hit buckets to give ISU a 4-0 lead. The Bruins came right back and answered the Sycamores call and tied the game at four.
Neither team could gain an advantage throughout the first half despite the Sycamores hitting five first half three-pointers. At halftime the Sycamores trailed the Bruins by a score of 30-29.
Coming out of the locker room Thomas hit a layup to give the Sycamores a 31-30 lead but it didn't last long as the Bruins went on a 9-2 run to take a 39-33 run with just over 15 minutes left in regulation. The Sycamores could never get the lead back.
With just over five minutes left to play senior guard Deja Mattox hit a 3-pointer to cut the Bruins lead to 54-52. The Bruins anwered and extended their lead down the stretch as they finally defeated the Sycamroes by a final score of 69-59.
Three Sycamores finished the game in double figures, led by Thomas who had her 20th career double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Brittany Schoen finished with 15 points and three robounds while Mattox had 10 points and two rebounds.
As a team the Sycamores went 26-58 from the floor for 44.8%.
The Sycamores will return to action Wednesday when they host UT-Martin at Hulman Center with a 7:05 p.m. tipoff.
