The Indiana State women's
soccer plays their final regular season game of the year on Saturday, Oct. 22,
as the Sycamores head to Omaha, Neb., to face the Creighton Bluejays. The match
is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m. (ET) from Morrison Stadium. In a partnership
with Creighton Athletics, fans can watch the match on GoSycamores.com through
SycamoreVision, but must have a Premium Subscriber account to view the match
online.
The Sycamores enter the
weekend matchup with a 4-12-0 overall record and 1-4-0 in MVC action, coming
off a 1-0 shutout victory over Evansville on Wednesday night. The Bluejays
enter the match with an 8-5-2 mark and undefeated in the Valley, at 3-0-1. ISU
currently sits in a tie for fifth place in the MVC with Drake, but would claim
the sixth and final spot in the tournament at this time. CU enters tie for
second in the league with Missouri State.
Indiana State's win over
Evansville on Wednesday gives the Sycamores the head-to-head tiebreaker against
the Purple Aces for the final spot in the tournament. UE plays host to Drake
and Missouri State for the final games of the season, coming on Sunday, Oct.
23, and Thursday, Oct. 27, respectively.
Four In A Row
Indiana State is looking to
make their fourth straight trip to the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Tournament this season, what would be a program record for consecutive trips to
the postseason. ISU also made the postseason for three consecutive seasons in
2006 through 2008.
Looking For A Change
The Sycamores have matched
up with the Bluejays 13 times since the beginning of their program in 2000,
coming away with 13 losses in those meetings.
Finishing With A Bang
Senior Jessica Rosenberg is
capping her final season in ISU blue in grand fashion, scoring in both of her
final home matches at Memorial Stadium.
No Draws
The Sycamores are one of
just two teams in the MVC to not record a tie this season, with their last draw
coming on Sept. 24, 2010, a 1-1 match at home against Valparaiso - a span of 25
matches.
From All Directions
Nine different players have
netted goals for ISU this season in their 16 matches, the most total
goal-scorers for ISU since 13 players hit the back of the net in 2008.
After Halftime
Indiana State has allowed
seven goals in the first half and 20 goals in the closing 45 minutes and
overtime periods of their 16 matches this season.
Career Day For Lahay
Senior goalkeeper Emily Lahay posted the sixth-most saves in Indiana State history on Sunday, Sept. 18,
against Miami (Ohio), turning away 14 shots on goal in ISU's 2-1 overtime loss.
Lahay made six saves in the first half, eight more in second half and a pair in
overtime, notching the most stops for an ISU keeper since the 2005 season. The
ISU senior made 16 saves in two matches for ISU last week and leads the team
with 40 stops this season.
Twice As Nice
Senior Seyma Erenli and
freshman Natalie Vaught scored in ISU's back-to-back matches against SIU
Edwardsville (Sept. 4) and Murray State (Sept. 9). The last time that two
Sycamores have scored in back-to-back matches came in 2007, when Caitlin Noble
and Sarah Whiteley both scored against Butler on Sept. 11 and Howard on Sept.
14.
Last Time They Met...
Creighton
Creighton took just two
shots on goal at Memorial Stadium last season, but both shots hit the back of
the net as the Bluejays came away with a 2-0 victory over the Sycamores. After
a scoreless first half, Brittney Neumann and Lauren Cingoranelli scored in the
second half, as ISU and CU played their first MVC game of the season on Sept.
26. Senior Seyma Erenli led ISU with three shots, but the Sycamores did not
record a shot on goal during the match.
Last Time Out...
Indiana State picked up
their first MVC win of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 19, topping the Evansville
Purple Aces, 1-0. Senior Jessica Rosenberg scored in the 34th minute on a wet
and windy night at Memorial Stadium, as the Sycamores broke their eight-game
losing skid. Senior Emily Lahay recorded her second shutout of the season and
11th of her ISU career.
On To The Next One
Indiana
State will have to sit back and wait to see if they make the 2011 State Farm
MVC Tournament on Thursday, as the Sycamores do not have a game on the final
round of games. All six other sides in the MVC are matched up around the
Midwest, as ISU will hope to find a spot in the opening round of the tournament
on Sunday, Oct. 30.
