The ISU softball team finished the first day of the Sycamore Challenge with a 1-1 draw against Ball State and a 3-1 loss to St. Joseph's College.

In the Sycamores first game of the day, Ball State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning ISU sophomore utility player Kim Pierce hit a home-run over the left field wall to tie the game up at one a piece. The game then ended in a draw at the end of the inning due to the 90 minute time limit.

Later in the day the Sycamores faced off against the Pumas of St. Joseph's College but were never able to get their offense going. The Pumas jumped out to a quick lead but the Sycamores were unable to recover, falling by a final score of 3-1.

The Sycamores will return to action Sunday for the second day of the Sycamore Challenge where they are set to play Morehead State at 10:45 a.m. and will conclude the tournament with a 6 p.m. matchup with the University of Indianapolis.
