EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. ? The Sycamores struggled to find their momentum this morning, falling to the Ball State Cardinals 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-18) in the second round of the SIUE Cougar Classic today. Indiana State (1-1) will round out play in the SIU Edwardsville Cougar Classic against The Citadel at 5:30 p.m. (ET) tonight.
Sophomore Morgan Dall led the Sycamores with 11 kills while senior Ana Maira Charun added eight kills and junior Stacy Qualizza seven kills and five blocks. Junior Shelbi Fouty had 17 assists and junior Kiya James 10 digs.
The Sycamores trailed throughout the first set as Ball State dominated for a 25-15 win. Indiana State found themselves early in the second set and had a 10-7 lead after three Dall kills and several Ball State errors. The Cardinals rallied with five straight points to take a 12-10 lead and Indiana State could not get back in front, losing the set 25-22. The Sycamores briefly had the lead early in the third set but a 5-0 Ball State run gave the Cardinals a 12-8 advantage. Indiana State would trail the rest of the way, dropping the set 25-18.
