NEW ORLEANS ? Indiana State seniors Kylie Hutson, Erica Moore, and Lauren Martin were named Outdoor Track & Field All-Americans by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) it was announced today.

The Indiana State women's track & field team finished tied for 19th at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 13 points. The Sycamores also finished the season tied for 20th in the national rankings issued by the USTFCCCA.

“There are not too many times when you have a team that finishes in the top 20 of the nation,” John Gartland, Indiana State women's track & field coach said. “These ladies who competed for us at the Championships have been our elite athletes since they came to Indiana State and they have also been leaders to the rest of the team.”

Hutson received her fifth All-American recognition after winning the NCAA Outdoor women's pole vault title last Friday, clearing 14'-7.25” (4.45 meters) to successfully defend her 2009 title and establish a new NCAA Championship Meet record. Hutson broke the NCAA mark of 14'-5.5” (4.41 meters) while was set by Becky Holliday of Oregon in 2004.

The victory was Hutson's fourth straight NCAA Championship in women's pole vault which includes two straight NCAA Outdoor titles that match her two straight NCAA Indoor titles.

She also received All-American recognition as a sophomore when she placed 11th at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Hutson has competed at the NCAA Championships in each of her four years at Indiana State beginning with a tie for 15th at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships as a freshman. She was 14th as a freshman at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships and finished tied for ninth at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Moore earned her second All-American recognition after finishing sixth in the women's 400 meter finals with a time of 58.12. She ran 57.25 in the semifinals. This was Moore's third trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships as she finished 19th in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2008 Championship and was 17th in the Heptathlon at the 2009 Championship.

The Sycamore has also participated in three NCAA Indoor Championships culminating with a ninth place finish in the 800 meters at the 2010 Championships to earn her first All-American recognition. Moore attempted a rare double at the 2009 Championships by competing in both the 800 meters and Pentathlon but failed to place in either event. She was ninth in the 800 meters at the 2008 Championship.

Martin earned her fourth All-American recognition after finishing 13th in the women's triple jump at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a leap of 42'-0” (12.80 meters). Martin competed in the triple jump in five NCAA Championships, two indoors and three outdoors.

Her best finish came at the 2010 Indoor Championships where she placed fifth. Martin was 23rd at the 2008 Outdoor Championship, 15th at the 2009 Indoor Championships and 10th at the 2009 Outdoor Championships.

The other Indiana State competitor at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships was sophomore Major Clay who placed 11th in the men's high jump by clearing 7'-0.25” (2.14 meters). He just missed earning All-American recognition by one place.

The Indiana State women's team has finished in the top 25 at the NCAA Championships nine times in the last 20 years with their best outdoor finish coming in 1994 when the Sycamores tied for sixth in Boise, Idaho. The 13 points scored in the 2010 Championship is the sixth best in the past 20 years for the Sycamore women at the Championships and the best outdoor finish since that 1994 finish.

A total of 523 awards will be presented to the 428 individuals as a result of a national top-eight finish in this past weekend's NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. In addition, the top eight finishing athletes among U.S. citizens from the NCAA Championships gained All-America status as awarded by the USTFCCCA.

All four Sycamores who competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are expected to compete in the USA Track & Field National Championships along with freshman Stacia Weatherford who will be competing in the junior nationals. The USATF National Championships will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, June 24-27.
