NEW YORK – Nick Ciolli led the Indiana State University Sycamore baseball team in numerous categories during the 2009 season and was the first Sycamore player selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft held in New York City.

Ciolli, a Terre Haute, Ind. native, was selected with the No. 313 overall pick in the 10th round by the Chicago White Sox.  Ciolli was the 12th player drafted by the White Sox, who selected another Terre Haute native, Joshua Phegley from Indiana University, with the 38th overall pick.

Ciolli finished the 2009 season with a .401 average, five home runs and a team-best 50 RBI while also leading the Sycamores in at-bats (222), hits (89) and sacrifice flies (8).

The junior outfielder will have to make a choice about his professional career in the coming months, as Ciolli will need to decide whether to sign with the White Sox or return to Indiana State for his senior season.

As of the completion of the 15th round, four players, other than Ciolli, from the Missouri Valley Conference have been drafted.  The Cleveland Indians selected Missouri State outfielder Ben Carlson in the sixth round (pick 185), the Kansas City Royals selected Missouri State and MVC Pitcher of the Year Buddy Baumann in the seventh round (pick 212), the Colorado Rockies selected Bradley pitcher Rob Scahill in the eighth round (pick 241) and the San Diego Padres selected MVC Player of the Year Brayden Drake out of Missouri State in the 12th round (pick 354).
