TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? The Indiana State men's cross country moved up two spots in this week's Great Lakes Region rankings which were announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Based on their showing at the Notre Dame Invitational last Friday, the Sycamores moved to eighth in the rankings just behind Dayton who edged ISU by three points in the Blue Division race in South Bend.
Wisconsin maintained the top spot with Butler second and Indiana third. They were followed by Michigan in fourth, Ohio State fifth and Michigan State sixth.
Behind the Sycamores is Notre Dame in ninth, Kent State 10th, Miami (Ohio) 11th, Eastern Michigan 12th, Central Michigan 13th, Purdue 14th, and Marquette 15th.
Despite a sixth place finish in the Gold Division at the Notre Dame Invitational, the Indiana State women did not break into the top 15 of the Great Lakes Region. Michigan holds down the top spot with Michigan State second and Notre Dame third.
The Sycamores have two weeks off in preparation for the Pre-Nationals which will be held on the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Championship course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center on Saturday, Oct. 17. The ISU women's team will compete in the Bradley Classic on Friday, Oct. 16.
