CARBONDALE, IL ? Four hits is all that the Sycamores could gather up in both games of a softball conference doubleheader at Southern Illinois University this Saturday afternoon as Indiana State was defeated 7-0 and 8-0 by the Salukis.

Game one belonged to SIU's freshman pitcher Nikki Waters who threw a 7-inning one-hitter, striking out ten of the 22 Sycamore batters she faced.  Leslie Fakes was the only batter who was able to hit off Waters and that was a single in the first inning of play.

Down 1-0, the Sycamores remained close until the Salukis rattled off six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  However, only two of those six runs were earned as two Sycamore errors and a wild pitch allowed the Salukis to score five unearned runs for the 7-0 victory.

Sophomore Meagan McCurdy (5-7) took the loss for the Sycamores.

Game two was much of the same as the Salukis took control early scoring one run each in the first and second innings and then putting four across in the third.  The Sycamores offensive struggles continued as they could only muster three hits against another young Saluki pitcher, freshman Danielle Glosson.  Meredith Simpson tallied two singles and Katie Armour, who pitched the second game for the Sycamores, also tallied a single against Glosson. 

The Salukis registered two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the second game of the doubleheader 8-0 in a run-ruled shortened six inning game.  Armour went the distance for the Sycamores as her record drops to 0-8.

The Sycamores (9-18-1, 2-8 MVC) will play game three of the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
