TERRE HAUTE, IN ? The Indiana State Sycamores (9-14-1) will host Illinois State (11-14, 1-4 MVC) this Wednesday at Price Field in a conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.  The Redbirds own a 61-11 all-time record versus the Sycamores.  After the two-game series with the Redbirds, Indiana State will travel to Carbondale, IL to take on the Salukis (17-15, 5-3 MVC) of Southern Illinois University for a doubleheader on Saturday and the third game of the series on Sunday.

After ending the 2007 season with a stellar 44-17-1 mark and advancing to the NCAA Regional Championship game for the third time in the history of the program, the Redbirds are struggling so far this season with only one win in the Missouri Valley Conference and a second-to-last place spot in the standings.  Sophomore third baseman Kara Nelson is the hot hitter for the Redbirds.  Nelson is batting .387 and went 2-for-3 with two doubles against Southern Illinois this past Saturday.  However, Illinois State lost that game to the Salukis which was their third-straight MVC loss, dropping the Redbirds to three games under .500 for the first time since 2006.

The Saluki softball team ended their four-game losing streak with a pair of 2-1 victories against the Redbirds.  They are now undefeated (5-0) in conference home games this season.  Freshman pitcher Danielle Glosson threw a complete-game three-hitter to pick up her second win of the season in game one and SIU's other freshman hurler, Nikki Waters earned a complete-game victory after surrendering only five hits in game two.  The Salukis hold a 54-15 all-time record against the Sycamores and currently sit third in the MVC standings.
