TERRE HAUTE, IN ? It was the first time this season that the the Indiana State softball team suited up to play at home, but Price Field wasn't so nice to the Sycamores as they dropped both conference games to Drake University.
Four Sycamore errors proved costly in game one as the Bulldogs' five runs were all unearned. In the Bulldog's first time up to bat, a Drake batter reached first base and advanced to second after pitcher Darcy Wood attempted to throw her out at first but the throw was low, hit the dirt, and got past first baseman Britt Boyer. A RBI single to left field by Jaci Faidley put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the first inning.
In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs would add two more runs thanks to a Jenna DeLong homerun with one runner on base because of another Sycamore error.
Indiana State put one on the board in the bottom of the same inning after a Katie Armour walk which was followed by a RBI double from Boyer. The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the last inning to take the first game 5-1. Wood took the loss (4-2) as she pitched all seven innings walking none and striking out eight batters.
In game two of the doubleheader, a five-run inning by Drake was too much to handle for the Sycamores as they were defeated 6-2. Similar to game one, the Sycamores again committed two errors that Drake capitalized on putting four unearned runs and one earned run across home plate in just the second inning. Sophomore pitcher Meagan McCurdy (4-5) gave up two hits and walked two batters before being replaced in the second inning by Armour who finished the game.
The Sycamores got one of their runs back in the bottom of the second when Kelsey Anderson was walked and reached home plate on a Leslie Fakes dropped fly ball to left field.
Each team added one more run a piece for a final score of 6-2 with the Bulldogs taking the second game evening their record at 12-12 (3-2 MVC). The Sycamores drop to 8-13 and 1-3 in the MVC.
