FAYETTEVILLE, AR ? The Sycamore softball team dropped two ballgames today against the Razorbacks from the University of Arkansas (21-6) 12-2 and 4-1 as their record drops to 7-10 overall.
In game one, junior Katie Armour had a tough outing on the mound as she gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning alone. The Razorbacks put one more on the board in the third inning before the Sycamores could muster a run in the fourth inning. Armour singled to center field and advanced to third on a fielding error. Britt Boyer then singled through the left side to score Armour and make it a 5-1 game. The Razorbacks plated three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to two homeruns.
The Sycamores would tally one more run in the fifth inning. Kelsey Anderson led off with a double to left field and Meredith Simpson followed with a single up the middle to score Anderson.
The Razorbacks would add another four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to run-rule the Sycamores 12-2.
In the second game, the Razorbacks again took the initial lead in the bottom of the first inning going up 2-0 on the Sycamores.
Indiana State tallied their only run of the game in the third inning. Simpson led off with an infield single. Razorback pitcher Kim Jones tried to throw Simpson out at first after a Christina Meyers line out but overthrew the ball allowing Simpson to advance to third. Armour blasted a hit to the pitcher that allowed Simpson to cross the plate bringing the Sycamores within one.
Sophomore pitcher Meagan McCurdy threw three solid innings before the Razorbacks put two more runs on the board to seal the victory.
The Sycamores are now 2-2 on their seven-game spring break slate and will kick off Missouri Valley Conference play this Friday and Saturday when they visit Missouri State University. Friday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m.
