PEORIA, Ill. -- Competing in its first ever Missouri Valley Conference Championship as a program, the Indiana State women's golf team moved into seventh place during the second day of the tournament held at the WeaverRidge Golf Club in Peoria, Ill.
By shooting the fourth-best team score of the day, 332, the Sycamores improved from eighth place to seventh during the tournament's second round of competition. ISU's two-day score of 649 holds the seventh spot, just four strokes behind Northern Iowa and Evansville, who are currently tied for fifth.
Southern Illinois has posted a two-day score of 609 to lead the tournament.
Individually, freshman Breanne Smith posted a 76 on day two to stand in sixth place after two rounds of play. Her two-day score of 154 is just five strokes off the pace, after she was just one shot off the lead at the turn on Monday. Bradley's Bari-Lynn Erais leads the tournament with a score of 149.
Kayley Bodine carded a second round 77 to stand at 165 in a tie for 28th position. Right with her is MacKenzie Mack who shot an 83 and is also at 165 in a tie for 28th after the first two rounds.
Abby Butler's 81 yielded a two-day score of 166 for her, which places her in a tie for 32nd position heading into the tournament's final day.
Other finishers for ISU were Kelsea Ice who shot and 86 and her two-day score of 173 is in a tie for 49th, while Aubrey Watt shot an 88 to stand in a tie for 56th with a score of 178.
Indiana State will finish the tournament tomorrow (April 17) with the third and final round of play.
