Nick Rush joined the Indiana State staff as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in November 2023. He serves as the primary contact for the Sycamore men’s basketball and women’s golf programs.
Rush was the main media contact for the 2023-24 men's basketball program that finished 32-7, won the regular season title, and ended the season as the NIT Runner-Up. He pioneered the social efforts for that program that concluded the year as the second-best team in program history, falling one win short of tying the most wins in a season. From November (when he started at Indiana State) through April, on Facebook the reach totaled 2,011,000 in reach; Instagram totaled 115,000 in reach and more than doubled the follower count; Twitter garnered 11,029,000 in impressions with a 3.79% engagement rate.
He created the promotional efforts for the postseason accolades, which included the CollegeInsider.com mid-major coach of the year, two Lou Henson National Player of the Year finalists, NABC Coach of the Year and two NABC First-Team selections, MVC Coach of the Year, MVC Newcomer of the Year, MVC Sixth Man of the Year, and five MVC all-league selections.
Prior to joining Indiana State, Rush worked in digital marketing at RJL Solutions developing and leading digital marketing strategies and e-communications. He used his background in marketing, photography, videography, and design to oversee 20+ clients and 60+ social media accounts to ensure messaging remained on-brand.
Before RJL, Rush spent two years at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant while pursuing his master’s degree through Indiana State. He worked with all 20 varsity sports, from statistical intake to photography to leading media days. Rush was involved in each component of RHIT athletic communications while serving underneath the Academic All-America Core Program Chairman.
While in his second year, Rush volunteered as an assistant baseball coach for the 2022 squad that finished 28-13 with an all-new coaching staff and earned the three seed for the league tournament. He focused primarily coaching outfielders. In the same academic year, Rush instructed an RHIT 100 first-year course, helping guide new students through their first semester of college.
Rush graduated from Manchester University in 2020 with two degrees, one in sport management and the other in marketing. While earning his degrees, he spent 3.5 years working in the sports information office and became the Sports Information Intern his senior year. A four-year baseball player, with the final year cut due to the pandemic, Rush was a career .315 hitter and earned an All-HCAC selection his junior year. He led MU and ranked second in the league in RBI.
