Aaron Roelfs joined the Indiana State Strength & Conditioning Staff in January 2023. He was promoted to Assistant Coach in August 2024, and then Head Coach for Sports Performance and Science in September 2025. He primarily works with with Indiana State baseball and football teams, and has experience working with the Sycamore softball, women's soccer, and track & field programs.
Over his time with the Sycamores, Roelfs has designed and implemented all aspects of strength and conditioning for the Sycamores' football and baseball programs, including the development of an NFL free agent signee (Rashad Rochelle) and a 2026 MLB First Round selection (Carter Beck). He has served as the internship coordinator overseeing three graduate assistants, while also furthering the development of advanced levels of internship classes with curriculum through coordination with the Indiana State Kinesiology Department. Roelfs has also operated and analyzed GPS data through Catapult and Kinexon Player Tracking systems.
He's also worked on developing a performance nutrition packet to further educate athletes on their nutrition and recovery. This has included assisting in a newly founded sponsorship deal with a local nutrition company that benefits athletes directly, while also managing the purchasing of products for the fueling station and various equipment.
Roelfs came to Indiana State by way of Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he served as a student strength and conditioning intern. Among the teams he assisted with included football, wrestling, men's basketball, volleyball, softball, men's and women's track & field, and baseball. He also served as the student head strength and conditioning coach for the Central men's soccer and men's golf programs.
His other strength and conditioning stints have come by way of Pella High School (May-August 2021) and Nebraska-Lincoln (June-August 2022). During his time in Lincoln, Roelfs assisted with the Olympic Sports including volleyball, women's soccer, wrestling, and women's gymnastics.
Roelfs was a three-year letter winner on the Central College football team from 2018-22. He was a varsity starter at tight end and was a starter on Central's 2021 NCAA Division III quarterfinalist team.
He graduated in December 2022 from Central College with his bachelor's degree in exercise science with a focus in strength and conditioning. He graduated with his master's degree in sports management at Indiana State in August 2024.
