Biography

2025: Lined up in 24 games with 11 starts in the 2025 season …Recorded a .241 batting average with 14 hits in 58 at-bats … Four extra-base hits with three doubles and a home run … Drove in six RBIs and scored three runs … Drew seven walks … Recorded a .323 on-base percentage and a .345 slugging percentage … Recorded three multi-hit games and two multi-RBI contests … Went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored on March 29 at UIC … 2-for-4 with two RBIs on February 25 at Bethune-Cookman … Doubled against Wagner (Feb. 14), Northeastern (Feb. 23), and Valparaiso (Mar. 22) … Posted a 1.000 fielding percentage over 30 chances.

Morton College (2024): Lined up and played 57 games over the course of the 2024 season ... Hit .451 from the plate with 93 hits in 206 at-bats, including 22 doubles, four triples, and 13 home runs ... Drove in 70 RBIs while scoring 62 runs ... Drew 31 walks and was hit by two pitches ... Recorded 18 stolen bases ... Recorded a .523 on-base percentage and .786 slugging percentage.

Morton College (2023): First National Junior College Athletic Association All-America selection in Morton College history, hitting .442 and setting Panther single-season records with 17 home runs and 87 RBI. Also had 95 hits in 59 games. Cantu also was honored by ABCA/Rawlings with a selection to their All-America Third Team. Also Morton College’s first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference MVP for baseball in 28 years. All-Region IV First Team choice. With 32 multi-hit games, 28 multi-RBI contests and an .833 slugging percentage, Cantu was remarkable all season. He was held hitless in just 10 games and had hitting streaks of 16 and 14 games. Cantu was capable of going on RBI binges, knocking in 15 runs in a four-game period during March, then exploding for 18 RBI over five games played in late March/early April. Cantu, who had an on-base percentage of .506, was in the running for the Region IV Triple Crown until McHenry's Mason Schwalbach put together a sensational playoff drive to claim the home run and RBI legs. His greatest month was April when Cantu batted .522 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI over 26 games. Over a seven-game period in April, Cantu was really sizzling in hitting .571 with 16 RBI off 16 hits. Cantu, who plans on majoring in engineering, wound up third nationally in RBI and also was top five in the country for hits, doubles (25) and total bases (179). Completed his freshman year with a 3.6 grade-point average.
