Hi! I’m Avery Hales, and I’m from Warsaw, Indiana. I’m a senior setter at Indiana State and graduated a year early this past May with my degree in Communication with a concentration in Digital Media. I’m now pursuing my master’s in Sport Management and Leadership while finishing out my time playing volleyball here at Indiana State. Outside of volleyball, I love traveling, going to concerts, trying new places, and spending time with my friends. I’m really close with my family, who have always been my biggest supporters, and I love spending time with them and my two dogs. I’m also a big fan of Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Hunger Games, so a good movie night is one of my favorite ways to spend a day off.

2025 - Played in 27 matches and 87 sets, starting 15...Finished second on the team in assists per set (4.75) and total assists (553)...Fourth on the team in total digs (182)...Recorded double-digit assists in all but five matches...Six 20+ assist games, including a 32-assist match against Idaho...Six double-doubles, including a 26-assist, 15-dig match against Southern Illinois (11/14)
2024 - Played in 17 matches, starting seven, and in 39 sets...Second on team in assists with 145 (3.72 per set)...Added in 71 digs (1.82 per digs)...Eight games with 10-plus assists and ended season with five-straight games of 11-or-more, including a 20-assist game against Evansville (11/20)...Recorded double-double in two of last three games of season with 16 assists and 12 digs (11/15) and 20 assists and 13 digs (11/20)
2023 - Played in 22 matches, starting 14 and appearing in 71 sets...Led Indiana State with 554 assists (7.80 per set), while her 8.32 assists per set in conference play ranked seventh in the MVC...Dished out 30 or more assists in 10 matches, including a pair of 40-assist matches with a season-high 46 against Murray State (9/23)...Had 30-plus assists in eight of the last 11 matches to close the season...Added 129 digs (1.82 per set) and 21 blocks (0.30 per set) from the defensive side...Was fourth on the team with 19 aces (0.27 per set), averaging better than two aces for every service error...Recorded a pair of matches with three aces (9/23 at Murray State, 10/20 at Bradley)...Had four double-doubles, all of which came against conference foes...Closed the season with 11 straight matches with five or more digs.
Prior to Indiana State - Played at Warsaw Community (Ind.) HS, where she registered over 3,000 assists in her career...Finished her high school career with 3,548 assists (9.3/set), 527 kills, 789 digs and 160 aces...2022 Indiana Ms. Volleyball nominee...Was a 2022 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American...Four-time first team all-conference honoree who was also on the AVCA Phenom list three consecutive seasons (2019-21)...2021 and 2022 Under Armour All-America nominee...2022 AVCA All-America Watch List selection...Second team all-state selection in 2022...2022 AAU Academic All-American...Participated in the 2022 Indiana North-South All-Star game.
