Lee Hughes is starting his first season as assistant coach of the Indiana State
Sycamores. He will be working along-side head coach, Julie Hanley, and assistant, Ali Conquest during the 2016 season.

“I am really excited to be joining the ISU family and can’t wait to work with the great group of players we have here. Big thanks to Julie for giving me this opportunity and helping me move forward in my coaching career.”

Hughes spent one season as the volunteer assistant coach for the University of Iowa women’s soccer program under current ISU head coach, Julie Hanley. While with Iowa, the Hawkeyes had a 7-10-1 record as well as placing 6 student-athletes to the Academic All-Big Ten team.

Hanley said, “I am thrilled to have Lee join our program and the Indiana State community.  His knowledge and passion for the game will be an invaluable resource for our players as we try to build a championship culture at Indiana State.  The players and I are extremely excited to have him be a part of this team.”

Hughes played his collegiate soccer for Ashford University where he graduated 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sports management. While at Ashford, Hughes served as team captain and helped lead them to the NAIA Final Four in 2013 and NAIA Sweet 16 in 2014. Hughes was also named an NAIA Academic All-American in 2014 and in his senior season was named Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Iowa is not his only experience thus far. Hughes comes to ISU holding some club coaching experience as well. He was the head coach of the Dewitt Rockets U12 boys’ team in 2013, for the Eastern Iowa Soccer Association. In 2014 Hughes was a volunteer coach for Iowa soccer club and assistant coach of Dewitt High School boys’ soccer team.

Raised in Old Colwyn, Wales, Hughes holds his USSF C and D licenses, as well as level one and two goalkeeping diplomas.
