In his second season with the Indiana State women's soccer coaching staff is Alex Mattson.
"Alex is a great addition to our coaching staff. His tireless work ethic and passion for the game and developing student athletes has been evident since he stepped on campus. I am thrilled that Alex has joined the Sycamore family and am excited to work with him," said Hanley.

Mattson joined the Sycamores after spending one season as head coach at Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wis. During his time at Lakeland, he managed to raise the team GPA from a 2.65 to a 3.07, which earned the team a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic award, their first on record. His team also received the NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship award.

Prior to his time at Lakeland, Mattson was an assistant men's soccer coach at Alma College from 2014-2016. As an assistant at Alma he served as the recruiting coordinator and primary goalkeeper trainer, and was responsible for planning and implementing field and goalkeeper training sessions. He also spent two years at Ripon College as the assistant men's and women's soccer coach, where the team earned their second consecutive 10 win season.

"I am grateful and excited to be a part of the Sycamore family. I believe Julie has laid down a great foundation and I am looking forward to being part of a growing program, coaching staff and athletic department. The first couple weeks with the group have been great and I can't wait to see this program move forward," said Mattson.

Mattson is currently certified by the United States Soccer Federation with his National "C" License. He also has his NSCAA Goalkeeper Level Two Diploma, High School Coaches Development Certificate, and attended the NSCAA Convention from 2012-2016.

Mattson hails from Brookfield, Wis., and now resides in Terre Haute, Ind.
